Wallace and Gromit have amassed quite a few fans over the past few decades, but few go as far as Mike Prankerd. Mike already built a Wallace and Gromit themed motorbike in the past, but when he had the chance to pick up a 1962 Astin A35 van he just couldn’t resist the possibilities.

As a retired metal working teacher the Austin provided little challenge for Prankerd, who actually sought and got permission from Aardman Animations before setting out on his endeavour. The Austin not only features a paintjob that’s identical to the animated car used in ‘A Matter of Loaf and Death’, even the inside of the car was meticulously modelled to the car in the film. Including a custom roof lining made from old flour bags, and a radio that also doubles as a toaster oven.
Prankerd is not to worried about keeping his Austin in pristine condition. He drives the car year round and also uses it regularly to raise money for various charities. Check out our video short in which Mike gives us all the details on his lovely A35. And we also take the camera around the car for you to have a closer look.
